New Things…

This week a few new things have popped up around the house and I love them!

Yesterday, Brooklyn and I went to Hobby Lobby, TJ Maxx, and Marshalls.

I learned while at Hobby Lobby that they have an 80% off section! Someone forgot to mention this to me and therefore, I was completely surprised and ended spending 20 minutes rummaging through all their goodies.

This is one of the things that I picked up and put back down a million times at Hobby Lobby. I finally told myself that if I didn’t get it now, someone else would. And it was only $3.75 so I couldn’t pass it up!

I love the cottage appeal it has!

Then on to TJ Maxx. Brooklyn and I spotted an old vintage fire truck for Mark and got that, but then I laid eyes on this lovely piece.

It seems like everyone has the milk pitchers floating around their homes these days and I was far behind and so for $2.00 I decided to join rank!

And the latest is this fern from Lowes. We needed a little greenery at the back of our yard, for some reason the grass hates to grow back there and simply refuses to, so for $10 we added some of our own!

I’m hoping we will hear something soon on our house. We have a showing tomorrow and a second showing from a very interested buyer on Sunday! Fingers crossed!

Random Quiz

I stole this off another blog that I read. Since I don't have much to blog about, I'll answer the questions!

1. Are you watching The Bachelorette? Of course. Haven't missed an episode the past 2 seasons! I'm rooting for Chris L!
2. How often do you sweep/mop your floors? Well here lately we've been sweeping almost every single see with Siberian Huskies, all they do is this (below). And that leaves a lot of fur, everywhere! So I've been sweeping a lot lately. As for mopping. Our floors don't get THAT dirty and with the regular sweeping, they are pretty good.
3. Do you hate it when you can't walk barefoot on said floors because you obviously haven't swept often enough? It really depends on how bad it is! It bugs me more when I see tuffs of "cotton" (fur) floating across the floor like it's alive. We don't have "dust bunnies" but "fur bunnies"!
4. Do you have a cleaning schedule? Since we have our house on the market, we try to clean once every week or two. He does the sweeping/mopping and I do the dusting and the picking up. Once the house is clean, it's easier to keep it that way!
5. How many loads of laundry do you do in a week? Ha! I swear our clothes breed! I normally do 3-5 loads every 10 days or so. We have a 3 bin sorter so we have dark tops, dark bottoms, and whites. And then towels. And sometimes Brooklyn gets her own load, especially if she's had dirty/busy days!
6. What is your all time favorite meal to cook? Here lately we are IN LOVE with Salmon, portebello mushrooms, corn, and salad! Mark loves to grill so anything on the grill is his thing.
7. Are you reading any books right now? Yes, I'm reading Dreamviel by Lynn Viehl
8. How do you and your husband share the chores? We are usually pretty good at splitting the chores. I load the dishwasher, he unloads. I do the laundry (wash, fold, put away) and he puts away the hang up clothes. He sweeps/mops, I dust/make beds. He takes out the trash and waters the yard, I pull weeds (sometimes). So we are pretty good at splitting them up.
9. What are you most excited about this summer? Moving into our new house! Fixing it up, slowly because we'll be on a major budget!
10. What's your favorite Sonic drink? Cherry Dr. Pepper
11. Why do you/don't you blog? This question is funny because, while I consider myself a blogger, I really don't write blogs very much. I don't once I start the blog, I'll write good for about a week, and then it slacks off when things in life pick up. Don't let this fool you though, I read them It is a part of my morning routine. Breakfast with Brooklyn and then I grabbed the laptop and settle in on the couch with her. She watches her shows and I read my blogs. Think of it as my morning newspaper. I love reading what is going on in other peoples lives and I obviously love reading design blogs as well. I write blogs because I like documenting what it going on in my life. It is also is a way to keep me accountable for things I say I am going to do both in life, and around the house.
12. Do you grow your own herbs? Nope. I have a hard enough time trying to keep my plants alive, much less herbs to actually eat!
13. What's your best money saving tip? I don't have too many but here are a few ways!

~We don't shop much. Every now and then we'll splurge a little bit and when I "splurge" I usually hit up the clearance/As-Is sections at TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Ross, and Bed Bath and Beyond.

~We DIY most of the things in our house. We paint ourselves, we buy old furniture off Craigslist or at thrift stores and rework them, and we install most things in our house as well.

~We watch most new movies online. If we went to the actual movie theatre as much as we watched new $9/ticket, two tickets, so $18 on tickets plus $10 on drinks and popcorn, that's $28/visit and you are looking at 3-4 movies a month! Goodness! Usually we hook the laptop up to the big screen by $7 worth of ice cream at the 7Eleven and settle in!

~Coupons. Go to, install their Coupon Printer, type in your zip code and go nuts on coupons you know you'll use! Then when you go grocery shopping, have a calendar handy. Plan your meals for the days of the week. And if your schedule is unsure, just make up enough meals for however many days are in between your shops. We go weekly, so our groceries stay between $50-$100/week. Sometimes less or more depending on what kind of dinners we are making! But "clip" coupons and use them to help with sides or meals or even breakfast!

~Programmable thermostats. We have one on each unit in our house (two units). You can set them up so that they switch their settings depending on the time of day. Our upstairs unit stays on 78 all day. It's a good temperature for upstairs and the downstairs is on 78 during the day and 82 at night. We have a decent size two story house and our electric bill is RARELY over $160. I say rarely because this past month we had a mishap with our A/C and it was $300, ooops!

14. What is the most treasured toy in your house right now? Toy? Hm, maybe my new computer? I've only had it for a few weeks. But other than that, I don't have much. Other than my books but most of them are in storage right now!
15. If you had to rent a movie tonight (newish release), what would it be? I don't even know what's out on DVD!

New Dell

So Mark and I have one desktop and one laptop. The laptop being my main source of internet since technology hates me and therefore his computer likes me only sometimes.

I work from home and that means I need a desktop. With a phone and a TV. Well, lets just say that when I’m working on his desktop, he has no source of internet because he HATES laptops. Will not use one unless it’s the only option.

So we decided a new desktop was in order. Enter my new baby!

A Dell. With Windows 7…kind of looks like a Mac, but it’s a Dell.

So now I’m set up in the kitchen, on the little desk. And for now, I’ll still have to work from Mark’s computer because that’s where the TV and phone are but at least he’ll have another way to access his Facebook!

Dinner is almost done, so I must get going.

House update: Submitted an offer last night, now just waiting to hear back…and yes…that’s on my dream house from my last post!

A Woman's Week at the Gym

Today I was reading Andrea's Attic and ran across this. It is absolutely hilarious and is exactly how I feel after Mark makes me run every week.

Dear Diary,

For my birthday this year, my daughter (the dear) purchased a week of personal training at the local health club for me. Although I am still in great shape since being a high school football cheerleader 43 years ago, I decided it would be a good idea to go ahead and give it a try.

I called the club and made my reservations with a personal trainer named Belinda, who identified herself as a 26-year-old aerobics instructor and model for athletic clothing and swim wear. My daughter seemed pleased with my enthusiasm to get started! The club encouraged me to keep a diary to chart my progress.

MONDAY: Started my day at 6:00 a.m. Tough to get out of bed, but found it was well worth it when I arrived at the health club to find Belinda waiting for me. She is something of a Greek goddess -- with blonde hair, dancing eyes and a dazzling white smile. Woo Hoo!! Belinda gave me a tour and showed me the machines. I enjoyed watching the skillful way in which she conducted her aerobics class after my workout today. Very inspiring! Belinda was encouraging as I did my sit -ups, although my gut was already aching from holding it in the whole time she was around. This is going to be a FANTASTIC week!

TUESDAY: I drank a whole pot of coffee, but I finally made it out the door. Belinda made me lie on my back and push a heavy iron bar into the air then she put weights on it! My legs were a little wobbly on the treadmill, but I made the full mile. Belinda's rewarding smile made it all worthwhile. I feel GREAT! It's a whole new life for me.

WEDNESDAY: The only way I can brush my teeth is by laying the toothbrush on the counter and moving my mouth back and forth over it. I believe I have a hernia in both pectorals. Driving was OK as l ong as I didn't try to steer or stop. I parked on top of a GEO in the club parking lot. Belinda was impatient with me, insisting that my screams bothered other club members. Her voice is a little too perky for early in the morning and when she scolds, she gets this nasally whine that is VERY annoying. My chest hurt when I got on the treadmill, so Belinda put me on the stair monster. Why the Hell would anyone invent a machine to simulate an activity rendered obsolete by elevators? Belinda told me it would help me get in shape and enjoy life. She said some other shit too.

THURSDAY: Belinda was waiting for me with her vampire-like teeth exposed as her thin, cruel lips were pulled back in a full snarl. I couldn't help being a half an hour late, it took me that long to tie my shoes. Belinda took me to work out with dumbbells. When she was not looking, I ran and hid in the restroom. She sent another skinny bitch to find me. Then, as punishment, she put me on the rowing machine -- which I sank.

FRIDAY: I hate that bitch Belinda more than any human being has ever hated any other human being in the history of the world. Stupid, skinny, anemic, anorexic little cheerleader. If there was a part of my body I could move without unbearable pain, I would beat her with it. Belinda wanted me to work on my triceps. I don't have any triceps! And if you don't want dentsIn the floor, don't hand me the damned barbells or anything that weighs more than a sandwich. The treadmill flung me off and I landed on a health and nutrition teacher. Why couldn't it have been someone softer, like the drama coach or the choir director?

SATURDAY: Belinda left a message on my answering machine in her grating, shrilly voice wondering why I did not show up today. Just hearing her made me want to smash the machine with my planner. However, I lacked the strength to even use the TV remote and ended up catching eleven straight hours of the Weather Channel.

SUNDAY: I'm having the Church van pick me up for services today so I can go and thank GOD that this week is over. I will also pray that next year my daughter (the little shit) will choose a gift for me that is fun -- like a root canal or a hysterectomy. I still say if God had wanted me to bend over, he would have sprinkled the floor with diamonds!!
I hope ya'll have a great weekend!

Potty Training

So most parents start their potty training at 18 months. We were a little late to that party. And maybe if we had started it then, we'd be finished by now. But I fully believed that she wasn't ready yet because she wasn't even talking yet.

Brooklyn has an underdeveloped tongue muscle which makes it difficult for her to chew, swallow and talk. Her vocabulary is where it needs to be at her age but because of her tongue muscle, there are certain sounds that she has trouble making because she cannot lift her tongue up to the rough of her mouth to create those sounds.

Because of this, I thought, maybe she's not quite ready. Plus, most kids don't like when their diapers are full or poopy, Brooklyn didn't care. She would go all day and not tell me. ECI told me that was another sign she wasn't quite ready yet.

Well my aunt and my grandmother didn't care, they were bound and determined to teach her when they had her for a week when I was out of town. I told them that was fine, and brought the potty chair and panties. It didn't last long.

Now we are on pull ups and using the Sticker/30-min System. Every 30mins she has to sit on the potty and if she goes, she gets to put a sticker on the calendar. IF she has a sticker on every single day of the calendar, she gets a prize at the end of the week. So far this system has only worked for one week. This week she isn't as interested in the stickers.

Needless to say, I seriously hate potty training. We've been potty training since the beginning of March and still she isn't potty trained! Not even close really. I've got a few people who have done the "run around bottomless" thing, but she's already peed on my couch once! I'm braving it again today. That and I'm being mean. The TV can only come on while she's sitting on the potty chair. So if she wants to watch TV, she has to sit down and try to potty. If that doesn't work, I'm going to have to find a new approach.

Next baby...we are starting early!

End of School, Beginning of Summer

Today is Brooklyn's End of the Year school wide party and while parents cannot go, I think she'll have a blast regardless!

Tomorrow is her class party and that we can go to. We ordered her a "end of the year" school shirt and of course, I bought the smallest size for her and it still had to be adjusted!

But she's still cute as can be!

And as for the beginning of summer, our summer has already started! With it being 102 degrees outside, summer is full blown ON!

Here are a few pictures of our summer's start...two dogs, a kid, a chocolate chip cookie and a pool

Memorial Day

The holiday weekend is over and it was a good one.
Long, but good.

Yesterday started early. My best friend, Courtney, her mother in law and her two beautiful babies came over to visit on their way home from the airport.

A brief history lesson, Courtney and I have been friends for 20 years. Our mothers were best friends in high school so we were destined to be best friends. So even though I'm sure we were friends at birth, 4 years old is when we began sleep overs and parties. We have always been close but never real close in location. Growing up we lived 45mins away from each other and very rarely saw each other. We saw each other more in college because we went to the same one and then after we both left, we got an apartment together.
We moved to South Carolina together, experienced life and motherhood, and then we moved back to Texas. She has a beautiful little girl who is exactly 2 months and 1 day older than Brooklyn and then a wonderfully handsome GQ little man who is 2. And now while we still live 2.5hrs away from each other, we try our hardest to see each other when we are in town. She's actually coming to stay the entire weekend next weekend and I can't wait!

They stayed until 10:30am and then we got ready and went to the inlaws for a BBQ.

Ribs, potato salad, cole slaw, french fries, baked beans, rolls, and fruit salad. It was all fantastic.

J3, our local little buddy, came with his parents and he and Brooklyn had so much fun blowing bubbles and dragging out all toys at Nana and Peepaws house.

Laura took a great picture!

After everyone was gone and some flat tire drama, Mark and I went to meet up with our "house lady" to pick out all the colors for our new house! I cannot wait!!!

Here's our mood board:

Grafito ceramic tile - slate look
Brazilian Black granite
White Subway Tile
Oil Rubbed Bronzed fixtures
White Cabinets
And subtle, calm paint colors.

I can't wait!! SOoooo excited!
